Preschool information

The Arapahoe Preschool operates Monday through Thursday. The morning class begins at 8:00 along with the Kindergarten -12th grades. Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:50 in the commons area and students may partake of that if they wish. Lunch for the morning class is served at 10:50 and lasts until 11:15. By 11:20 they are getting on the bus to be taken home or to daycare. The afternoon class comes at 11:20 and goes immediately to lunch. They finish and are in the room by 11:55. The afternoon class is dismissed at 3:30 in order to make it outside and on the bus before the rush of the elementary's dismissal.

Typically the morning class is reserved for the younger group of three year olds and young four year olds as they may still nap in the afternoons. The afternoon class is designed for the students who will go to Kindergarten the following year. Currently our classroom is located in the new elementary wing (walk in the front door, turn left, first classroom on the left). However, in November or December we will be moving back to our original room on the north end of, what now will be, the high school. We will have our own area and restrooms and be a stone's throw from the playground.

In our preschool program we use a reading series entitled Little Treasures which is also the series that the elementary uses. In addition we utilize parts of the Handwriting Without Tears program and have a variety of resources that we use on our Smartboard. If you are looking for the latest in interactive technology via ipads you will not find it here. Children are surrounded by technology everyday and in preschool, I feel it more important to build with blocks, legos and lincoln logs, experiment with playdoh, paint, crayons and collage materials, run, climb, dance, sing, and learn social skills. All of these activities are hands-on, energy burning, coordination building activities that promote interaction with one another.

Our preschool also serves children who may have a developmental or speech language delay. We have resources in our building that provide speech language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. If you have a concern that your child is not meeting developmental milestones, please feel free to contact the school and someone will call you back.
