From the Desk of Mrs. Pruitt 3/23/20-3/27/30

At home education information

Here is the plan for my classes. I will be posting assignments at the beginning of each week, and the assignments for the week will be due before 8:00 AM the following Monday. I emailed all my students individually with a reminder of their usernames and passwords for Quia. I also emailed classes that have AR a link to the online library and their library card numbers so that they can check out books.

Note: If you have an IEP, check with Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Huxoll, or myself about your assignments before working on them for further instructions.

English 7: All assignments are due by Monday 3/30 at 8:00 AM

I have the Arapahoe group for two days and the Warrior group for two days. Mrs. Thomas has them the opposite days and will have their schoolwork for her class posted on her page.

1. On Kidblog, read the story Narcissus & Echo. (The link is in Google Classroom)
2. There is an option for Kidblog to read the story to you if you would like. You have to click on the icon at the end of the title. I have attached a screenshot of what that icon looks like, and a video on how to use the other cool features of this program in Google Classroom.
3. After you are finished reading the story, you will create two flashcards, Narcissus and Echo. Remember the card notes are on Kidblog. Instead of putting these on actual note cards, you will create them on the program BigHugeLabs "Trading Cards." I have made a video explanation for how to do this attached to Google Classroom.
4. Go to the Quia link at the bottom of the Google Classroom lesson page, once you are there, you will fill out the open book quiz over the story. Don't forget to click done when you are finished.

***Note: AR will be done with Mrs. Thomas this quarter while we are online. She will have AR details on her page.

English 9/10: All assignments are due by Monday 3/30 at 8:00 AM

Monday: AR log in Google Classroom.

Tuesday: RadioLab Podcast Assignment

1. For this assignment, students will be listening to RadioLab, a radio podcast, produced by WNYC Studios in New York. This assignment is based on the May 22, 2015 episode, titled “Nazi Summer Camp.” The podcast is available to listen to for free via this link: http://www.radiolab.org/story/ nazi-summer-camp/ or on your smart phone’s podcast app (you will need to search for the RadioLab podcast within the podcast app). The link is in Google Classroom.
2. Fill out the study guide that goes along with this Podcast.

Wednesday:

1. On Kidblog: read the article "The Boys Who Fought the Nazis."
2. Answer the questions on Quia.

*Note: It will only allow you to do the assignment once and has no secret word.

Thursday:

1. Work on your own and read the article attached to Google Classroom "Fighting Hitler."
2. Attach a document that answers the following:

1. Write about the author's purpose. Why do you think the author chose to begin this article the way she did? Write a paragraph (minimum of five sentences). I am looking for great insight. If you throw something together without much thought, you will NOT get a good grade.

2. In your own words, write a paragraph summary of the article. Again, I require a minimum of five sentences. I am looking for great insight. If you throw something together without much thought, you will NOT get a good grade.

Friday: ACT Prep Bellringer: Main Idea

Journalism: Due every day

Work on the yearbook each day. Screenshot what you have accomplished each day and email it to me. You may edit photos on Pixlr or Photopea; however, you must save the original picture with no alterations. This is in case the editing goes wrong and we need to start over. If by chance there is a photo that you cannot seem to get right, send it to me, and I will edit it in Photoshop.
